Syrah 2022

This Syrah has that classic cool-climate peppery lift the Yarra is known for. It opens with spice, rhubarb, pomegranate and a little smoky warmth, then moves into bright, juicy berries. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and fresh with enough savoury depth to keep it interesting.

White pepper, rhubarb, pomegranate, a touch of char.

Tastes like:

Fresh raspberry and blueberry with spice and a clean savoury edge.

Bright, smooth, lively.

The appearance is vivid ruby. The aroma shows pronounced white pepper, rhubarb and pomegranate tones along with caramel oak char and peaty notes. The palate is medium bodied showing wet stone, clove and smoked meat characters with freshly picked raspberry and blueberry which contribute a wonderful fruit sweetness to the wine. The acid and tannin balance helps to keep the wine fresh and lively.

Drink up to 2027 and serve with lamb tandoori with a fresh garden salad. 

After 5 years managing a small block of Syrah in the Yarra Valley, we have made our first serious red wine from the 2022 vintage. This also signifies the last vintage that Alkimi managed the block before swapping vineyards for 2023.
The vineyard sits at 290m above sea level in Silvan. There are gum trees to the west, providing afternoon shade to the block. Due to the ultra-cool growing conditions, the grapes always show intense white pepper notes.
