Lifted blood orange, red candied fruit, and strawberry fairy floss on the nose. There’s rose hip, wild fennel, cured meat and spice on the palate, with touches of vanilla bean and soft leather. It’s smooth, warm, and beautifully rounded.

Growing Grenache can be difficult to get right. A high
tendency to overcrop and a low vigour habit can spell disaster in the vineyard
if not managed accordingly. This vineyard is found at the northern end of the
Heathcote region and is located on the band of quite unique and famed Cambrian
soil.

The variety also benefits from some warm to hot days during
the ripening season which Heathcote is well known for. Having worked with
Grenache in the Southern Rhone Valley in France, I am aware that Grenache can
handle higher alcohol content and still maintain it’s elegance. We ripen the
Grenache right out and once in the winery, it is all about making a warm
climate version of Pinot Noir. Respecting the fruit characters, soft tannins
and juicy palate.
